Tip #1 - Fluff Your Throw Pillows

Fluff your throw pillows. Seems simple enough, right? But, simple as this step may seem, fluffing your toss pillows will bring life back into a lumpy, misshapen pillow. Fluffing pillows can take a lump and make it beautiful again, like your bedroom pillows after a tough night's sleep.

Take each throw pillow and fluff it by pushing in from each side as you hold it. Do this action multiple times on each side of the toss pillow. The fluffing action not only reshapes the throw pillow but allows air back into the pillow, bringing back that fluffy, comfy feeling.

Whether your pillow uses down filling, foam filling, Dacron fiber, or other types of filler, all pillows need to have air put back into them to keep their shape. Help keep your cushions looking their best by fluffing them every few weeks.

Tip #2 - Fluff Your Sofa Back Pillows

The back part of your sofa uses cushioning as well. The back cushions also need to be fluffed from time to time. If left in the same position for too long, the cushions will become flat and worn into the shape of wherever it was used.

After fluffing your pillow, If your couch has a removable back cushion, take it off and look for a zipper. Once you find the zipper, unzip your cushion after fluffing and push any loose fluffing down to create a pillow that is full and fluffed up.

Tip #3 - Flip & Fluff Your Support Cushions

When you sit on a couch cushion, eventually, the cushion will become misshapen, especially at the welt line. Welt chords are built into many cushions to help give them a more tailored look, and prolonged use can wear them down as well.

Check to see if your cushions can be flipped. If you flip your cushions, you will get much longer use out of them. Flipping cushions helps keep divots from forming in them and helps keep welt chords from being too worn.

In addition, check to see if your cushions have removable covers, and once unzipped, you will see a foam cushion with a layer of dacron on either side. If your welt chords are uneven, pull the foam around them to get them back into place and looking like new.

If your lower cushion is made of memory foam, like some mattresses, or any kind of high-density foam, pulling that foam back into place will also help get fresh air back into the cushion, ensuring that your seat cushion is more supportive again.

Tip #4 - Keep Your Sofa Clean

This next tip may not feel as simple or fun as the other two, but it is essential. Dust accumulates on furniture, just like your TV or kitchen table. Getting rid of that dust is critical to keeping your furniture looking new.

Vacuum your cushions regularly, and don’t forget to vacuum underneath the cushions as well. Lost cereal, old toys, loose change, and many other items can fall between your couch cushions and make for a pretty gross sofa. Regular vacuuming will prevent dust buildup and help you keep your couch clean.

If you do not vacuum your couch regularly, Furniture Fair recommends that you vacuum once in the spring and once in the fall to help prevent an unhealthy dust build-up. However, if you are cleaning the room and feel up to it, anytime is a good time to vacuum your sofa and get the dust off.

After dusting, consider taking a can of Woolite and lightly spraying your cushion surfaces. After spraying, let the product work for a few seconds, and then wipe the cushion down using a terry cloth towel. You will be surprised at how much additional dust you will find using this method.
