hi i'm doug miller i'm at furniture fair i've been doing furniture for about 28 years and today i want to talk to you about entertainment centers and tv stands a lot of times people come in and they really haven't thought through what they need they just know they need something to put their tv on so i want to walk you through some of the things you should think about before you buy first let's talk about sizing one of the most common mistakes people make is they measure their tv and they think that's the width of the stand they need but tvs are measured diagonally not by width so a 65 inch tv is not 65 inches wide you need to look at the actual width of your television and then make sure your stand is at least that wide if not a little wider so you have some room on each side the other thing to think about is your wall space you need to measure the wall where the stand is going to go because you don't want to get something home and find out it doesn't fit so measure your tv width and measure your wall space before you come in next let's talk about storage there are a few different types of storage you can get on a tv stand some have wood doors that close and hide everything inside some have glass doors so you can still see your components but they're behind glass and some have open shelving where everything is visible the type of storage you choose really depends on how much you want to hide if you've got a lot of components a cable box a gaming system a sound bar you probably want something with doors so you can tuck all that away if you just have a couple things open shelving might work fine just think about what you're going to put on it and how much of it you want to be visible now when it comes to price tv stands and entertainment centers range pretty widely you can find simple tv consoles starting around 199 dollars and then the price goes up from there depending on the construction the materials the size and the features the bigger entertainment centers with lots of storage and solid wood construction can go over a thousand dollars so there's something for every budget but the key is knowing what you need before you start shopping so here's my advice before you come in measure your tv get the actual width not the diagonal size measure the wall space where the stand is going to go think about what you need to store and what kind of look you want and then come in and talk to us we'll help you find something that fits your space your style and your budget
